This week Baby experienced hiccups for the first time. I was having trouble sleeping so was awake in the middle of the night when I felt rhythmic bumps from baby. I could only assume these were the hiccups everyone had been warning me about. After about a minute, Baby became restless and began moving around as if to find a position that did not allot for the hiccups. However the rhythmic bumps of hiccups persisted. Again, baby begin to move and squirm, desperately trying to figure out to stop these dreaded hiccups. As I lay there feeling Baby move, I could just imagine the frustration of those dreaded hiccups (hence my interpretation of baby’s movements). No new position was the cure to rid one’s self of the awful hiccups. I smiled as Baby wrestled with the uncomfortableness and yet sympathize as the hiccups persisted for almost 5 minutes, yet there was nothing I could do but wait them out. Finally the hiccups stopped and baby and I took turns repositioning until we were comfortable and able to and drift off to sleep. Oh the joys of motherhood before the little one even arrives!
